A thin man hovers near the pond.
He has walked a long way
through cold drizzle
to reach this neighborhood.
All I know about being cold
I learned near a small Wisconsin town.
I walked for miles in the snowy woods,
searching for a friend who fled in the dark.
He lives in Los Angeles now,
with his gray cat and expensive guitar.
Sometimes in winter his voice falls
through branches of the barren trees.
