Black Spring by Howie Good

Every day now
the Church of Holy Despondency
gathers converts,
flowers of black mold, too,
rubble everywhere,
barely a place left
to sit quietly and think,
the sun reverberating
like a golden gong,
and traitorous lawyers
in red power ties
and American flag lapel pins
making a criminal
of every growing thing.

Howie Good is the author most recently of Stick Figure Opera: 99 100-word Prose Poems from Cajun Mutt Press. He co-edits the online journals Unbroken and Unlost.
