I Come From by Diane Webster

I come from sagebrush
where rattlesnakes coil
in shade away
from the mid-day sun.

I come from rocks
where chukars call
an echo across
fossilized riverbeds.

I come from immigrants
deserting Russia and England
for a trip across the Atlantic
when I would have been
seasick hung over the rail
hungry for land I now call home.
