After breakfast I walk my dog.
In the early morning haze,
he hops over fallen tree branches;
Mud and peony petals litter our path.
He bristles at the big dog across the street
I brood over vaccinations, quarantines.
We both seek a safe way home,
face a longer road to serenity.
